Nikon D5200 SLR Camera Review

Nikon D5200

Nikon D5200 DSLR Camera Review: If you are anything like us, you are intimidated by cameras that have more options than the simple point and shoot. The Nikon D5200 looked overwhelming at first but after a little playing around, we couldn’t believe how easy it was to use.

This is the perfect camera for someone who isn’t a pro but wants to take really great quality photos at an affordable price. The pics below are a couple of the first pictures I took with the Nikon D5200 without knowing how to use it.

Weve Tried It Nikon D5200

This is an ideal camera for photographers who want to step up their game from point-and-shoot photos to the quality and creative options DSLR photography and full HD video can provide.

This camera is compact, lightweight and versatile lens with VR (Vibration Reduction) image stabilization to minimize effects of camera shake for sharp handheld pictures and movies. It’s 24.1-megapixel CMOS sensor delivers high-definition images with fine detail.

Potato Express

As Seen On TV Potato Express Review

Potato Express

As Seen On TV Potato Express Review: Shirley was once again shopping in the As Seen On TV section of the store and ended up coming home with the Potato Express.

Check out our review video to see if the product works like they claim: Perfect potatoes in 4 minutes…

As Seen On TV website says, “Perfect oven baked potatoes in just 4 minutes with Potato Express. Potato Express as seen on TV is the fastest, easiest way to cook perfect oven baked potatoes in the microwave. The secret is the unique insulation design that creates a steam pocket to give your potato just the right amount of moisture; you will have a tender skin and delicious fluffy inside every time.”

We were happy with how the potatoes turned out when they were finally done. Even though it took a bit longer for them cook than advertised it is still very fast for cooking 2 large potatoes and they were done perfectly. In the oven it would have taken at least 45 minutes to bake.

You can purchase the Potato Express here for $9.95. Have you seen any products lately you think we should try? Comment below and we will check them out.

Homemade toothpaste

How to Make Toothpaste Using Coconut Oil

Homemade Toothpaste Recipe Weve Tried It

How to Make Toothpaste using Coconut Oil: Our plan has always been to try and make each and every beauty product that we use daily.  In the wake of recent headlines accusing Colgate Toothpaste of using cancer causing ingredient triclosan, we thought this may be the perfect time for some homemade toothpaste.

DIY health and beauty products have many benefits; budget friendly and free of most harmful chemicals.  The toothpaste recipe we found on Family Sponge was very simple and took less than 5 minutes to make.

6 tbsp coconut oil
6 tbsp baking soda
25 drops essential oil (whatever you prefer— I used Peppermint)

Mix all ingredients together thoroughly in a bowl. Pour into a mason jar and seal it up until ready to use.

Using a popsicle stick to get it out of the jar and onto your toothbrush works well. Do not dip your brush directly into the jar, you will be spreading the germs from your brush into the unused toothpaste.

The recipe we found online called for 1 tsp stevia (or more if you like it sweeter.) Since we did not have any on hand, we made ours without. The baking soda taste comes through pretty strong without the stevia, so next time we are at the store we will pick some up and add it in.

My teeth definitely feel clean after brushing with homemade recipe.

Do you make your own toothpaste? Comment below and tells us what you do different.

Computer stand

The Prop Laptop Stand Review

The Prop Laptop Stand Review: Does your laptop overheat? We have the perfect sleek and simple solution. Our good friend Jacque told us about ‘The Prop’ when we were talking about our laptops possibly bursting into flames.

The Prop is a lightweight, portable stand designed to let air flow underneath your laptop while at the same time providing a slightly angled work surface for comfortable typing and reading.

Justin Brouillette and Nicholas Pajerski came up with the idea during architecture school while working on computers that ran a bit too hot. When they couldn’t find an affordable and portable solution to help keep their laptop batteries cool and running efficiently, they designed the first Prop prototype in Adobe Illustrator and brought it to life on the laser cutters right on campus.

Translucent and minimalist in its design, The Prop blends in anywhere it goes. Made in Nebraska to accommodate up to 17″ laptops, The Prop consists of just two pieces that are as easy to snap together as they are to take apart and stow in your bag. So wherever you and your laptop go, your Prop can go too.

Jacque said, “The laptop stand is minimal and let’s air flow, so the laptop does not get hot. I have my laptop connected to my thunderbolt monitor so it is always closed…my old stand took up so much space.”

We love the fact that is can be taken apart and fits nicely in your laptop bag. The Prop can be purchased at TheGrommet.com.

Makeup Organizer

Zen Cosmetics Makeup Organizer Review

Makeup Holder

Zen Cosmetics Makeup Organizer Review: Thanks to our good friend Jacque for letting us know about the Zen Cosmetics makeup organizer. We love to hear about anything that will keep the clutter to a minimum.

I don’t think Jacque could praise this product any higher… “Seriously the best invention #ever. Now I don’t mix up my lip and eyeliners #iminlove.”

She purchased two for herself and intends on buying more for gifts! Jacque found these gems on Quirky.com and after checking out the site, it looks like we will be doing some shopping too.

Zen Cosmetics is described as a glamorous storage unit that’s designed to hold onto your beauty essentials. Its grippy silicone base accommodates primping tools of varying sizes, from brushes to pencils to tweezers. It’ll keep you looking your best and your counters clutter free.

That mess of makeup tools is a bad look, so we designed Zen Cosmetics’ silicone base to put them in their place. Decked out in an assortment of soft hues, this is one organizer that doesn’t need to be hidden away. It looks flawless right out in the open.

Have you cleaned your makeup brushes lately? We have any easy way to do that here.

Play Doh Plus Product Review and Giveaway

Play Doh Plus Giveaway Weve Tried It

Play Doh Plus Product Review and Giveaway: Recently the iconic Play-Doh brand took it up a notch and introduced Play-Doh Plus.  The new addition is a soft and fluffy compound that allows for a new level of creative detail in PLAY-DOH play.

All of their research has really paid off on the new product. You can tell as soon as you take the bright colors out of their containers how much softer and fluffier they are. It was much easier to work with than the original product.

Play Doh Cupcake Tower

We tested ours out with the Play-Doh Sweet Shoppe Cupcake Tower, which comes with both regular Play-Doh and Play-Doh Plus.  Plus works great for making realistic frosting and molded decorations without the crumbling and breaking that would sometimes occur with the original product.

The softer product seems great for smaller children to be able to make their creations on their own. The Plus is much stickier than the original, so I would recommend using it on a clean hard surface. Our cupcake creation was accidentally dropped and came up covered in dust (I guess it’s time to sweep!). Since it is so much softer and stickier it might get stuck in carpet a lot easier.

Play Doh Plus

Interesting fact: When Play-Doh was first developed, it wasn’t a kids’ toy, it was made to clean wallpaper that had been dirtied by soot from home heating systems.

To enter for your chance to win an 8 pack of Play-Doh Plus you must be following us on two of the following sites: Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest or Instagram: @wevetriedit. In the comment section below list the two social sites that you are following WTI. The contest ends at 11:59pm on August 11, 2014. We will pick one winner and announce on our Facebook page by noon on 8/12/2014. Good luck!

Yurbuds Inspire For Women Earphones Review

Yurbuds Inspire For Women Product Review: I have been running for a couple of years now and have tried many different brands, shapes and sizes of headphones, none of which worked for me.

Some were uncomfortable and hurt my ears. Others bounced around, forcing me to constantly fix the earbuds which would result in me getting frustrated and taking them out.

I was hesitant to try another pair until the clerk at the Running Room told me about Yurbuds Inspire for Women earphones. They are guaranteed not fall out and have a comfortable fit and if I’m not satisfied, I can return them.

Inspire Talk Yurbuds

Yurbuds Inspire for Women Sport earphones are designed specifically to fit smaller ears. Featuring twist lock technology and a FlexSoft comfort fit, these Yurbuds are guaranteed never to hurt or fall out. They are sweat and water-resistant and allow for ambient noise, making them the perfect training partner for any female athlete.

Giving them a good test, I wore them on my 16 mile run. Putting them in with the Twist Lock is quite simple. They are extremely comfortable and the sound was pretty good. I was quite surprised that I never once had to adjust or re-insert throughout the entire run.

I am 100% satisfied with these headphones and am excited to be able to listen to music on all of my future training runs. You can purchase a pair of Inspire for Women here.

Do you have a product you love to train with? Comment below we would love to hear about it.

Eyebrow Sugaring Review

Sugaring Shirley

Eyebrow Sugaring Review: Thanks to Theresa L. Larson of Avante Salon in Stillwater, Mn for teaching us all about the art of eyebrow sugaring.

Theresa has been a licensed cosmetologist since 1992, licensed manager since 1994, certified sugar practitioner since 2004 and an educator for “Sugar it” since 2005. A current cosmetology license or Esthetician license is required to obtain body sugaring certification.

Sugaring is an ancient hair removal method that removes the hair from the root. It can remove hair as short as 1/16”, so there is no need to wait for hair to grow out between treatments.

Sugaring is made from all natural ingredients and the product is only used on one client, so there is no contamination concerns from warming pots. There are no strips used during the process, the sugar is applied directly to the skin and removed by the professional using only their hands.

I would say the sugaring process feels pretty close to the waxing process for eyebrows. The advantage I found is the sugaring compound does not cling to the skin as much as warm wax, so there is less redness and irritation when done. I have pretty sensitive skin and usually have some redness and irritation after waxing, with the sugaring I had no redness or irritation after.

Theresa did a great job explaining to me what she was doing as well as giving me a great shape to my brows.

Lay’s Potato Chips 4 Flavor Finalists Review

Lays 4 flavor finalists

Lay’s Potato Chips 4 Flavor Finalists Review by PhatPhood: Lay’s done did it again. Fans submitted flavor ideas and they were bagged in crispy potato chip form.

From left to right of the screen that is facing you:

Lays Chips

Wasabi & Ginger ~ Best out of the four! The flavor is spot on and it’s not overbearing. I could snack on these anytime I don’t have sushi and I want to get rid of that craving. 4/5 (I gave the Wasabi & Ginger a 4/5 because it comes in a 8.5oz while the others come in 9.5oz. It is the only one kettle fried while the mango is “wavy” or rippled.)

Second was the Cappuccino ~ Surprisingly this is my second favorite flavor. You want to dislike it because you’re like “Coffee!? Potato chip?!” Yes, it works. As an excellent dessert chip…that’s right, I’ll be crushing this over some vanilla bean ice cream later this evening. It has a great mocha/coffee flavor to it. If it actually had caffeine, I would have it for breakfast! 4/5

Next up, Mango Salsa ~ Too much fruity mango tasting crystals added. First time trying, it hit me harder than I had expected. A little kick with the salsa flavor as well. I tasted this one again after I had tried all four and I swear I got a hint of Fruity Pebbles. So it’s either inconsistent or my pallet is out of whack tonight. 3/5

Lastly, Bacon Mac n Cheese ~ I really wanted this to be my favorite. It just tastes like cheesy Lay’s but salter with all the flavor taken out. This is the last one I would get. Darn you, this was my pick before the tasting! 2/5

Oh well, Wasabi & Ginger it is! If you have tried the finalists be sure to vote for your favorite.

Homemade Peanut Butter Recipe Video

How to Make Homemade Peanut Butter

Homemade Peanut Butter Recipe Video: We recently had the opportunity to try some homemade peanut butter made by a friend. Amazed by the fresh, creamy deliciousness, we knew we had to make our own.

There are many recipes on the internet for peanut butter, some call for oil, butter and salt. We decided to use store bought roasted salted peanuts. There was no need to add anything except the peanuts. The oil and salt used in the roasting process is enough to give the peanut butter a creamy texture and great flavor.

Using our Kitchenaid food processor we simply poured in the desired amount of peanuts and turned the machine on. Starting with the chop setting and moving up to the puree setting.

The peanuts will go through a couple of stages. First they will turn into a powder, then they will get firm and be almost a peanut ball. Continuing to process the oils, it begins to release and you get the creamy peanut butter. It took us about 3 minutes of processing to achieve the desired consistency.

In just a few minutes time you get delicious peanut butter and the satisfaction of making it yourself! You can purchase the Kitchenaid Food Chopper here for $39.99.

Do you have a favorite recipe you make in your food processor? Comment below, we love trying new things.
