Walmart Savings Catcher Program

Walmart Savings Catcher

Walmart Savings Catcher Program: Walmart has announced a new program called Savings Catcher for all in-store purchases. What a great program for those of us who don’t like to go to a bunch of different stores in order to hit all the sales.

Here’s how it works: If a local competitor in your area offers a lower advertised price on an item that you recently purchased at Walmart, you get back the difference on a Walmart Rewards eGift Card or a Bluebird by American Express Card. Amounts credited to these Cards can be used to make purchases exclusively in-store at Walmart or online at Walmart.com.

Walmart Savings

Savings Catcher has 3 simple ways to enter your receipts.

  • Enter the receipt number online at www.savingcatcher.walmart.com
  • Scan the code at the bottom of your store receipt using the scanner in the Savings Catcher section of the Walmart app.
  • Register your phone number on the Walmart app or card reading at check out, then each time you check out enter your phone number and your receipt will be submitted.

You can submit up to 7 receipts per week and Walmart will search your area for advertised prices that are lower and give you back the difference in reward dollars. You can let your reward dollars accumulate until you are ready to redeem them for a Walmart Rewards eGift Card or your Bluebird by American Express Card. I think this is the best part of the program, that you can wait until you decide to redeem, instead of getting a bunch of in-store rebate coupons.

We entered our first receipt and the whole process took about 2 minutes the first time to set up the account and enter. We received a credit for $2.15 on just that one receipt. The only negative about this program is it does not include on-line purchases, which we tend to do quite a bit during the holiday season.

Do you know of a great savings promotion being offered this year? Comment below, we would love to check it out.

This offer is valid until 2/28/2015

Facial Hair Removal Epilator Coil Review

Facial Hair Removal Epilator Coil Review: When women get to a certain age facial hair pops up here and there and it must be taken care of. This product caught our eye as something we should try.

We would like to state that we watched a few YouTube videos on the Epilator tool before we tried it and most of the women raved about the product and didn’t seem to be in any pain… Watch our video review to see if that was the case for us.

Here is what Cheeky says about their product: Works by extracting hairs from the root. Hair removal by bending the coil over the hair then giving a twisting action entrapping the hair for a rapid pluck.

Do you have any hair removal products that you think we we should try? Comment below and maybe we will check them out.

Good Grips Grape and Tomato Cutter Review

OXO Good Grips Grape and Carrot Cutter

Good Grips Grape and Tomato Cutter Review: We love a good kitchen gadget and when we saw this little goodie we decided to put it to the test on grapes, tomatoes and black olives.

The OXO product is described as follows: “Take the hassle out of quartering grapes and tomatoes with the OXO Good Grips Grape & Tomato Cutter. Sharp, serrated, stainless steel blades quickly and easily slice through the soft fruit skin, while keeping fingers safe and out of the way. The blades also cut through pitted olives and grape tomatoes with ease. The curved finger rests provide comfort, even during repetitive use. The Grape & Tomato Cutter is great for making chicken salad, sangria, fruit salad, salsa and more. The cover snaps on for safe storage. The Grape & Tomato Cutter comes apart for easy cleaning and is top-rack dishwasher safe.”

Product Features:

*Quarters grapes or grape tomatoes in an easy, one-handed motion
*Perfect for grapes, pitted olives and grape tomatoes
*Serrated blades quarter quickly, easily and safely
*Perfect for chicken salad, sangria, fruit salad, salsa and more
*Curved finger rests provide comfort while cutting
*Cover snaps on for safe storage

One thing we noticed was that the cutter didn’t work great on bigger cherry tomatoes, so stick with medium to small for the best results.

How to Make Tissue Paper Flowers

Tissue Paper Flowers

DIY Giant Tissue Paper Flowers: We saw these great flowers decorating the wall at a local antique shop and thought they would look great in our girls rooms.

10 Sheets tissue paper per flower
String, yarn or zip tie

Lay the tissue paper out in front of you with the shorter side towards you. Accordion fold the tissue paper making each fold about 1 inch all the way to the end.

Tie the center mark of the paper, making sure it is good and secure. If you are using string or yarn use a double knot. We used zip ties.

Fall Lawn Maintenance Tips

Fall Lawn Maintenance Tips: Fall lawn care is essential to having a healthy lawn come spring. We have put together a list of tips you should do before the snow falls.

Remove leaves: Regularly rake or mow your leaves. It is very important to remove the leaves from your lawn. Don’t wait until your trees are bare. If you do, the leaves will saturate and form an impenetrable mat that if left unmoved will suffocate the grass and breed fungal diseases.

If you have a large yard we would recommend using a lawnmower fitted with a bag or vacuum system. It doesn’t matter which method you use, just be sure to remove the leaves before they get soggy.

Mowing: Your mower should be set to 2 inches in the fall. Your lawn will be growing more slowly now and you only want to be taking off 1 inch of grass when mowing.

De-Thatch: Check for thatch by removing a plug of grass and soil. One-half inch of thatch or less is not a problem. If there is more than that, your lawn is ready for a thatch-management. Vigorously rake out the dead grass from your lawn with a spring-tined rake, or rent a motorized scarifier for larger lawns. This will improve the look and health of your grass.

Aerate: Aeration fights grass compaction from summers high volume traffic and will promote uptake of oxygen and nutrients. Aeration reduces thatch, improves drainage, and loosens soil. Aerate the soil by pushing a border fork into the soil, or use a hollow tiner, which pulls out plugs of soil at 4-inch intervals. This should be done every 2 years.

Fertilize: Cool-season grasses, such as bluegrass, fescue, and ryegrass, respond well to feeding in early September and again in late fall (late October or November). A fall application of fertilizer gives your lawn the essential nutrients for the grass to grow deep roots now and to keep nutrients on reserve for a healthy start next spring.

Overseed: Fall is a great time to overseed your yard. Power seeding your lawn will increase your turf density. Overall it will improve the appearance and health of your yard. The best natural way to fight against insect and weed damage is a dense lawn.

Attack weeds: Fall is the best time to rid your yard of weeds, such as dandelions, clover, and other broadleaf weeds. Weeds, like most plants, are in the energy absorbing mode during the fall. They drink in everything that comes their way, including weed killers. Apply an herbicide now so that the weeds won’t return in the spring.

Most herbicide manufacturers recommend applying the weed killer during early-to-mid fall, when daytime temperatures are consistently above 60 degrees Fahrenheit.

Drain irrigation lines: Completely drain your lawn’s irrigation system before freezing weather arrives.

Prepare lawn mower for storage: If you prepare your lawn mower correctly in the fall it will be ready to go come next spring. Be sure to use up all the gas in the mower as part of your winterizing plan. The easiest way to do this is to simply run the engine dry in late fall. Change the air filter on your lawn mower at the end of the season. Empty the oil tank and refill after cleaning up your mower and sharpening the blades. Be sure to dispose of the old oil properly. Beneath the mower, clean the underside of the carriage as well as the blades. Use a hose to power wash off any dried mud and grass clippings. Some additional scraping may be necessary, especially on the underside.

*When it comes time to aerate or dethatch or seed your lawn check out your local rental center. We use All Season’s Rental in Western Wisconsin, they have everything we need to keep our yard looking amazing without having spend big bucks on items we only use once a year.

Gold’s Gym Folding Upper And Lower Body Cycle Review

Golds Gym exercise

Gold’s Gym Folding Upper And Lower Body Cycle Review:  I am always looking to add some low impact training to my scheduled, so I decided to purchase the Gold’s Gym Upper and Lower Body Cycle and give it a try.

I paid $27.95 at my local Walmart store and while doing a some research for this review I found it was only $19.01 online at Walmart.com. Note to self, always check online for better deals first.

Product Description: Improve your strength, coordination and circulation with the Golds Gym Upper and Lower Body Cycle. It offers a simple, low-impact cardio workout while an electronic meter tracks your total workout time. This Gym exercise cycle provides upper and lower body workout that are designed to strengthen your legs and tone your arms, shoulders, and back without leaving your chair. It comes in a compact, portable design with pedal straps that give a firm grip to your feet. This cardio workout cycle has a durable steel frame and folds conveniently for storage and transportation. It is easy to assemble requiring no tools. Furthermore, it features a quiet operation and has non-slip feet that hold firmly in place while you exercise. The Golds Gym Upper and Lower Body Cycle runs on battery that come included.

Putting the cycle together was very simple. Unfold, put in the locking knob and the T knob in for resistance. Done, it is ready to use.

I used the cycle for about 45 minutes, starting at the least resistance and moving to the highest resistance that I could get it to do. Even at the highest resistance it is probably comparable to the lowest level on an exercise bike. It would have been nice if there was some sort of marking to know what resistance level you were actually at.

The motion of the pedals is not completely smooth, but is easy to keep in motion. I did not have any problems with the unit sliding while in use.

There is a warning label on the unit indicates that the surface may get hot. They are correct, the unit did get quite warm.

For the price I think this product performs quite well. I will probably use it as a fill in exercise, as it is easy to set it up and pedal away while I am watching my favorite show. I am also going to suggest this for my mother who is in need of an exercise that she can do while sitting down.

Do you have any suggestions on great low impact and compact exercise equipment? Comment below and we will check it out.

Talenti Gelato Vs Ice Cream Review

Talenti Gelato Vs Ice Cream Review: Last weekend we came across Talenti Gelato Mediterranean Mint at our local grocery store and decided to give it a try. We have heard that gelato is a better choice when craving sweets.

Being ice cream lovers, we were skeptical that Gelato wouldn’t live up to our good old mint chocolate chip ice cream (we don’t have a favorite brand – we love them all.) We were definitely wrong in thinking that, it was amazing! The gelato was so creamy, velvety and full of flavor that we definitely have a new favorite brand of mint. Seriously, it was that good!

Since the gelato tasted so amazing we did a little research and find out if it really is a better choice. Talenti site says; Gelato is the Italian word for ice cream, and although it may seem similar to ice cream, gelato has an entirely different origin and production process. Talenti gelato is particularly special, because we make it from scratch with only the finest ingredients imported from around the world.

Talenti Gelato flavors

Gelato has less fat than ice cream. While ice cream is normally heavy on the cream and has a fat content of at least 10 percent, gelato uses more milk than cream, and has a fat content of 5 – 7 percent.

Ice creams are churned faster and harder than gelato. Ice creams typically increase in volume by at least 25 and up to 90 percent. This makes them a little fluffier. Gelato is churned at a much slower pace, keeping it dense (and sometimes more flavorful).

Ice cream is served frozen, gelato is typically stored and served at a slightly warmer temperature, so it’s not quite completely frozen.

Talenti Gelato

We only tried Mediterranean Mint (mint ice cream is our downfall,) Talenti has 30 different flavors available – you can see them here. We plan on trying them all…

So there you have it! There really are some benefits to eating gelato over ice cream. Do you have a favorite frozen treat you love? Comment below and maybe we will give it a try.

Homemade Dryer Sheets Recipe and Review

DIY Dryer Sheets Weve Tried It

Homemade Dryer Sheets Recipe and Review – We have been searching for a chemical free dryer sheet recipe and finally found one that looked easy enough to make, so we gave it a try. When we search out recipes we like to keep it simple and this is simple.

Homemade Dryer Sheets Recipe and Review

1 cup of distilled water
1 cup baking soda
2 cups of white vinegar
25 drops of your favorite essential oil (Optional)
Coffee filters

In a large bowl whisk water, baking soda and essential oil. Then SLOWLY pour in your vinegar. You will start to see the fizzle from the vinegar and baking soda. Once mixed thoroughly set aside.

Separate a package of coffee filters. Put them in a container and pour the mixture over them until completely saturated. Allow filters to soak for 15 minutes. When time is up, wring them out as best as you can (you can pour what is left back into a jar to use as fabric softener in the washer if you want). Separate them as best you can and lay them out on a cookie sheet to dry. It may take over night. Once dry, put them loosely in a large covered container or Ziploc bag and they are ready to use.

We were a little concerned that when the sheets were dry they might leave some baking powder residue on the clothes. We tested them out first on a dark load of laundry. The clothes came out great, they were soft, static free and no powder on them. In our book this was a success!

Another great idea for chemical free dryer sheets are Alpaca Wool Dryer Balls. You can read that review here.
