BB Makeup Cosmetic Bar Review: If you have watched any of our Weve Tried It YouTube videos then you know that Shirley and myself are makeup challenged. Recently we had a photo shoot to get ready for so we enlisted the help of Brooke Fleetwood owner of BB Makeup Cosmetic Bar in Hudson, WI.

First things first… We contacted Brooke less than 24 hours before we needed to be glamorous and asked her to open BB Makeup Cosmetic Bar a few hours early to accommodate us and she did! Service with a smile, great music and a fun atmosphere!

For my face Brooke used hD flawless face, copper bake bronzer, barbie blush, injection highlight. My eyes she went with Fairy Pigment, Titties Shadow, Sugar Daddy shadow, Goth Shadow, Black Caviar Liner, smoked out with Sugar Daddy. Brookie Pot on the lips and BB Lashes.

Missy Germain Before and After

The lashes that I had on are good for up to 30 uses and Shirley’s are good for 15. We purchased eyelash glue from BB’s and we will be doing a video to see if we can make it look as easy as Brooke did. That should be a good video!

Personally I loved the experience and how I looked and felt. It gave me the sass I have been missing. I plan on buying the BB Makeup line and with a makeup lesson or two from Brooke, hopefully I will be able to recreate this look. Shirley felt like it was a bit much for her. I think she looked FABULOUS!

Gloves Knitting Machine

Addi Express and Addi King Knitting Machines

Knitting with Addi Knitting Machine

Addi Express and Addi King Knitting Machines: Recently we asked our Facebook followers if they were working on any new projects that they would be willing to share with us. Michel Wong wrote in to tell us about the Addi King and Addi Express knitting machines.

This was very intriguing to us since I took up crocheting this past year and Shirley started finger knitting and finger crocheting. Michel was kind enough to share some photos of her finished projects and tell us more about the Addi knitting machine.

Addi Express and King

Addi King and Addi Express knitting machines.

Where did you hear about Addi Express? “I was searching YouTube for crochet patterns and stumbled upon a video.”

How easy is this to use and how long do the projects take you? “The Addi knitting machine is very easy to use. The difficult part is finding and creating patterns. I watch videos online and then customize the pattern to my needs. It’s a lot of trial and error but a fun process. I can make a set of fingerless gloves in an hour.”

Does it come with patterns or did you make up your own? “Both Addis were gifts from my boyfriend and so he also purchased a couple pattern books. There is a small growing group of users that share ideas on YouTube and an Addi FaceBook page. It’s fun for me to create new patterns like the yoga sock.”

yoga socks

Yoga socks.

Do you knit normally and if so compare regular knitting to using the machine. “I’m not a knitter because it’s so time consuming, that is why I love the Addi knitting machine. You can complete projects in a short amount of time. I have always been into crocheting. My grandmother introduced me to it when I was younger.”

Crochet Flowers

Mittens finished off with crocheted flowers.

Do you sell your projects and if so where can people buy them? “I currently do not sell my items but I hope to in the future. I will be making a lot of gifts this year for family and friends. This will help me really figure out my patterns and what works.

Michel added a crocodile crochet stitch to this cowl.

Anything else you want to add. “Addi machines are not easy to find. There are very few specialty stores that offer them and when they do, they go at a premium. Otherwise you have to order them from Germany and wait for it to go through customs. That’s what I did.”

Shrimp Tacos with Pineapple Salsa 350

Shrimp Tacos with Pineapple Salsa Recipe

Shrimp Tacos with Pineapple Salsa

Shrimp Tacos with Pineapple Salsa Recipe: It was our daughters night to pick what’s for dinner and she found this Shrimp Tacos recipe on Pinterest. It was so good that we are already planning on making it again.

My husband loved the pineapple salsa, he said the crunch of the cucumber and red pepper were perfect and the cilantro hit it out of the park. He’s been watching too much Guy Fieri on the Food Network.

Salsa Ingredients:

1 can of pineapple chunks (diced)
1 small red onion (finely chopped)
1 red pepper (seeded and finely chopped)
1 cucumber (diced)
1/2 cup fresh cilantro (chopped)
2 tbls lime juice
2 tbls extra virgin olive oil
Kosher salt & ground pepper to taste

Taco ingredients

Shrimp Ingredients:

1 lb large shrimp (peeled and deveined)
2 tbls olive oil
2 cloves of garlic crushed
Flavor God Lemon & Garlic Seasoning

Flour or corn tortilla shells

pineapple salsa

Prepare the salsa; Mix all ingredients in a bowl and taste to make sure the flavor is right. Add more Kosher salt, pepper or lime juice as needed. Place in the refrigerator until the shrimp is ready.

Flavor God Seasoning

Cook shrimp. In a bowl place your pound of shrimp with the olive oil, garlic, Flavor God seasoning and mix well. Place shrimp in a skillet and cook on medium heat. Once pink use a tongs and flip sides.

Shrimp Tacos

Grill or heat up your tortilla and you are ready to serve. This time we didn’t make any side dishes but next time we plan on making cilantro lime rice and refried beans.

We may even make 2 pounds of shrimp next time. Delicious! What is your favorite kind of tacos? Leave us a comment below.

Cheesecake Stuffed Strawberries recipe

Cheesecake Stuffed Strawberries

Cheesecake Stuffed Strawberries

Cheesecake Stuffed Strawberries: This recipe is quick and delicious. There was only one problem, I made them for dessert and they didn’t quite make it until dinner time.

Large container of Strawberries
1 teaspoon of Vanilla
1/2 cup of Powdered Sugar
8oz Cream Cheese

In a medium bowl, mix together cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla until smooth and creamy.

Clean your strawberries. You can make them two different ways. Either cut them in half and clean out the middle or you can keep whole and just clean out the center with a small melon baller.

Strawberry dessert

Dry the strawberries. Place your cream cheese mixture in a Ziploc bag. Move the cream to the bottom of the bag, take the air out and seal. Cut a small hole in the corner of the bag to pipe the cheesecake into the strawberries.

We added crushed graham crackers to the tops of ours. Delicious!

DIY Yarn Balls

DIY Decorative Yarn Balls

Decorative Yarn Balls

DIY Decorative Yarn Balls: Easy and fun project! All you need is an empty basket a couple of rubber balls and some leftover yarn.

This really is really as simple as it looks. Start out by securing the yarn to the ball.  Tie a knot at your first pass or you can also secure it with a piece of tape. Go around your ball in every direction, making sure that you can’t see any part of the ball. When the ball if fully covered you can knot off the end piece and tuck it in.

Yarn ball

What’s fun is doing all different sizes and colors. If you have a small ball and want to make it bigger just keeping going around it with yarn until it gets to be the size you are looking for.

Thanks to our friend Lisa for sharing her yarn project with us! We are always looking for quick and easy DIY decorative projects. If you have an idea for us leave us a comment below.

Another fun yarn project is crocheting a washcloth. Check out our easy how to video here. If you decide to give it a try be sure to post a photo of your projects on our Facebook page – we love to see your finished projects.

Red Pepper Hummus

Roasted Red Pepper Hummus Recipe

Roasted Red Pepper Hummus

Roasted Red Pepper Hummus: If there is one thing I can’t get enough of, it’s hummus. My latest favorite is roasted red pepper. Creamy and delicious.

1 large red pepper
1 15oz can garbanzo beans
1/4 cup Tahini
1/4 cup fresh squeezed lemon
Olive Oil
Kosher Salt
2 cloves garlic minced
1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper

First roast the red pepper. Turn on the broiler in your oven be sure that the top rack is 5 inches from the broiler. Place red pepper that has been brushed with olive oil on baking pan with sides in oven. Watch closely. Once the top side turns black flip it to the next side. Do this until the entire red pepper has turned black.

Roast red pepper

Once out of the oven, place in a Ziploc bad for 20 minutes. This steams the pepper and makes it easy to peal off the black layer and pull out the inside seeds.

Steam red pepper

We use a small Kitchen Aid mixer that works great. In the mixer add garbanzo beans, Tahini, start with 2 tablespoons of olive oil, kosher salt, garlic, cayenne pepper, cumin, roasted red pepper and lemon juice. Mix until smooth. If it is on the drier side add more olive oil and mix until you get to the creamy consistency that you are looking for.

Also, be sure to taste and add more seasonings if need be. Check out our Sriracha Hummus and Cucumber Hummus recipes. We served our hummus with pea pods and sea salt pita chips.

Homemade Noodles

Homemade Fettuccine Noodle Recipe

Homemade Fettuccine Noodles

Homemade Fettuccine Noodle Recipe: We have always wanted to make our own noodles and now we can say we’ve tried it. With several steps, the process seemed a bit daunting but really it wasn’t too bad and the pasta turned out great.

The recipe that we found said to make our pot of boiling water taste like water from the sea. Watch your salt it can really take over the taste of the noodles.

Note: If you are making for dinner be sure to give yourself about 2 hours of prep time. There is a total of an hour resting time that you will need to take into consideration. Also, we made a smaller batch with 2 cups of flour and 3 eggs – we gave you the full recipe.

1 pound all-purpose flour (more as needed)
1/2 teaspoon fine sea salt, plus more for the pasta water
5 large eggs
1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil

Flour and eggs

Start by placing the flour on a clean counter and shape it into a mound. Sprinkle the flour with salt and make a large well in the center. Add the 5 eggs and 1 tablespoon of oil to the middle of the well and beat them together with your fingers or a fork until thoroughly combined. Slowly pulling small amounts of flour from the inside walls of the well into the egg mixture and mix until a stiff dough forms. Knead the dough, adding more flour if needed to prevent it from sticking. The dough will now need to rest for 30 minutes, cover with a damp cloth.

Towel on dough

Once the dough has rested cut it into thirds, shape each piece into a circle, then flatten each piece with your hands. Your surface should be floured. Roll the dough until very thin, about 1 mm, flipping it over as you roll and flouring as needed.

Rolled out dough

Once your dough is thin enough fold the pasta round in half from top to bottom and then fold in half again from top to bottom. Cut the rectangle crosswise into 1/4 inch-thick slices. Unroll the pieces and toss with flour. Spread on a floured parchment sheet and let noodles dry for 30 minutes.

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Once boiling add half of the pasta to the water. If you aren’t eating all of the pasta in one sitting you can refrigerate the other half to use later. Cook for about 4-6 minutes. You be the judge, take a piece out and taste.

Serve however you would like. We had a pan of olive oil, garlic, cherry tomatoes and basil ready and waiting. We put the cooked pasta right from the boiling water into our sauce and mixed thoroughly, sprinkled with Parmesan and served. Delicious! We will be making this fresh fettuccine again.

This recipe says that it will feed four. I’m not sure how much each person is eating, but with our cutting the recipe in half we could have easily fed 4 people.

We found our recipe on Tasting Table website.

Beef Queso Dip 350

Beef Queso Dip Recipe

Beef Queso Dip

Beef Queso Dip Recipe: While this would be a good appetizer to bring to a party, it is also just a great snack to make for your family at any time for no reason what so ever.

1 lb. ground beef
10 ounces Velveeta (cubed)
1/2 cup shredded Monterey Jack cheese
1 can Rotel
1/2 cup medium salsa
2 tablespoons chopped fresh cilantro leaves
4 green onions chopped
Salt and pepper to taste

This is really simple! Brown your hamburger in large frying pan. Drain off the fat. Add in cubed Velveeta cheese to the browned hamburger and stir until melted. Then add in Monterey Jack cheese, Rotel, salsa and mix well. Stir cilantro, salt and pepper and cook for another 2 minutes.

I garnished mine with a little extra shredded cheese and green onions. Serve immediately with your favorite tortilla or corn chips. We have no idea how it would be heated up the next day because it was gone quicker than it took us to make it.

If you want to take it up a notch you can add, black beans, sweet corn and red peppers. What is your favorite Southwestern dip to make? Leave us a comment below, we love to try new recipes.

Strawberry Cheesecake Dessert 350

Strawberry Cheesecake Dessert Recipe

Strawberry Cheesecake Dessert

Strawberry Cheesecake Dessert Recipe: Sunday morning confession…I’m having strawberry cheesecake dessert for breakfast and I don’t feel a bit bad about it.

Creamy, delicious and oh so satisfying! We found this recipe on South Your Mouth blog and switched it up a bit by making homemade whipping cream to replace the cool whip. Yum!

2 pounds strawberries
15 graham crackers (2 sleeves)
1 8oz package of cream cheese
1 14oz can of sweetened condensed milk
2 3.4oz boxes of instant cheesecake pudding
3 cups of milk
2 cups of homemade whipping cream or 1 12oz container of Cool Whip

Start by washing and slicing your strawberries (1/4 inch thick.) Dry and set aside.

In 13×9 baking dish line the bottom with graham crackers. You may have to break some pieces to fill in the edges.

If you are making your own whipping cream make that first and set aside. You will need 2 cups.

In a large bowl mix cream cheese and sweetened condensed milk with electric mixer until smooth. Add in cheesecake pudding and milk and mix for 5 minutes. Gently fold in the 2 cups of whipping cream or Cool Whip.

Strawberry cheesecake

Pour half of the cheesecake mixture on top of the graham cracker bottom. Then add a single layer of sliced strawberries. Top the strawberries with another layer of graham crackers. Pour on the remainder of the cheese cream mixture and then decorate the top with the rest of your strawberries.

Strawberry Cheesecake Dessert Recipe

We also crushed up some graham crackers and sprinkled them over the top of the dessert. Place in the refrigerator for 6-8 hours to set up.

Serve and enjoy!

Gorgonzola Cream Sauce 350

Gorgonzola Cream Sauce Recipe

Gorgonzola Cream Sauce

Gorgonzola Cream Sauce Recipe: So good! We are a little late putting on this recipe, but this is what we made for Valentine’s Day and it was delicious.

Quick and easy and it adds the perfect finishing touch to your filet or any steak. Giving it that fine dining/gourmet feel.

2 cups heavy cream
2 ounces crumbled Gorgonzola cheese
2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
Dash of ground nutmeg
6 strips of bacon, fried and crumbled
3 green onions chopped

You can cook your filet any way you would like or you can check out our cast iron skillet method here.

To make your sauce pour the heavy cream into a medium saucepan, bring to a boil (medium heat.) Once boiling reduce your heat and simmer until the cream is reduced by half. Be sure to stir the sauce occasionally.

Once reduced by half remove it from the heat and whisk in the Gorgonzola cheese, Parmesan cheese, salt, pepper, and a dash of nutmeg, stir until the cheese has melted.

Once your steaks have been grilled and rested pour your Gorgonzola sauce over the top and garnish with crumbled bacon and chopped green onions. Perfection!
