Halloween Makeup Ideas with BB Makeup Cosmetic Bar – We are one week away from Halloween and we still haven’t figured out what we are going to dress up as.

We’ve Tried It enlisted the help of Brooke Fleetwood owner of BB Makeup Cosmetic Bar in Hudson, WI and artist Colleen Schullo to test out a couple Halloween looks on our very own Phatphood and ‘On the Fly‘ MY29 television host Tony Fly. Both guys shave their heads and both have goatees to work around. Phat is into scary clowns and well Tony didn’t give us any ideas so we went with a pumpkin skeleton.

Chicken Tortilla Soup

Chicken Tortilla Soup Recipe: I’m not sure what your reaction was when you saw the above photo of this delcious looking soup, but I want some right now! My friend Brandy Morcomb posted this picture on her Facebook page of her homemade Chicken Tortilla Soup and she was kind enough to share her recipe with us.

Not only is Brandy sharing her recipe for the soup but she is also giving us her very own spice mix and fills us in on how she makes her cilantro rolls!


1-2 jalapeño diced
1 red pepper diced
1 yellow onion diced
1 box chicken stock (about 4-6 cups )
1 bag of fire roasted corn
2 cans of fire roasted tomatoes
1 can of black beans
1 rotisserie chicken-cleaned off the bone and cubed

You can use whatever spices you like or you can try Brandy’s special spice mixture. Once you have throughly mixed the spices together ONLY USE 2 tablespoons for your soup. You will have extra for other dishes.

Brandy’s Spice Mix (Only use 2 tbsp.)

3 Tbsp. chilli powder
1 1/2 Tbsp. sea salt
2 Tbsp. cumin
2 Tbsp. smoked paprika
2 Tbsp. Mrs Dash southwest Chipotle
1 Tbsp. crushed chilli flakes (optional)
2 Tbsp. cayenne pepper

In a soup pot sauté the jalapenos, red pepper and yellow onion. Once the veggies are tender add the rest of your ingredients and 2 tablespoon of spice mixture. Bring the soup to a light boil and then simmer for 1 hour. While the soup is simmering Brandy always adds the juice of 1-2 limes. Seems simple right?

When you are ready to serve you can top with chips, sour cream, shredded cheese, avocado, and/or cilantro. Whatever you like.

The cilantro rolls are crescent rolls with fresh cilantro and a half a stick of Organic string cheese rolled in them. Then topped with a dash of cilantro.

Strawberry Cheesecake Chimichangas Weve Tried It

Strawberry Cheesecake Chimichangas Recipe: My niece and daughter decided that they wanted to do some baking yesterday and found this recipe. We are so glad they did! Crunchy, sweet, creamy and wonderful all wrapped up in a dessert burrito.


6 soft flour tortillas (8 inch work best)

8 oz. cream cheese (room temperature)

1/4 cup sour cream

1 Tablespoon sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 cup sliced strawberries

Vegetable oil-for frying

1 Tablespoon cinnamon

1/2 cup sugar

Cooking Directions:

Beat the cream cheese, sour cream, 1-tablespoon sugar and vanilla extract until creamy. Then fold in 3/4 cup of sliced strawberries. Once you have your filling mixture ready divide it evenly between the 6 tortillas. Spread the filling in the lower third of each tortilla, fold the two sides of each tortilla toward the center and then roll the tortilla up like a burrito. Secure your chimichangas with a toothpicks.

Get your oil ready now. Pour 2 inches of vegetable oil in a cast iron skillet or deep sauce pan. Heat oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 360ºF.

In a shallow dish combine 1/2 cup sugar with 1-tablespoon cinnamon and set aside. Get a large plate ready for deep fried chimichangas by lining it with paper towels.

Chimichangas Frying

Fry the chimichangas until golden brown and crispy, about 3-4 minutes and flip them as needed. You can work in batches, our skillet was large enough to do all 6 at once. We really like them crispy, make sure all sides are golden brown. Transfer the chimichangas to the paper towel to collect any extra grease, and then roll them in the cinnamon and sugar mixture. Do not let chimichangas cool down before you roll them in cinnamon and sugar mixture.

Chimichangas Weve Tried It

Arrange on a plate and garnish with strawberries. You could also make some fresh whipping cream to dip the chimichangas in. So delicious!

Tuna Salad Recipe: Yesterday I posted a picture on We’ve Tried It Facebook page of my tuna salad and a follower asked for the recipe. If I would have know I was going to post this recipe I would have taken more photos of the process.

Tuna salad is pretty simple to make, the recipe really depends on what you like. After you check out our recipe let us know if you add something different that you think we should try.


2 boxes Creamette Rings (dry pasta)

2 cans tuna fish (drained)

1 medium onion (diced)

6 stalks of celery (diced)

1 can peas (drained)

Hellmann’s Mayonnaise

Seasonal Salt


Salt & Pepper to taste

Directions: Boil pasta rings until cooked to your liking, drain and place in large bowl. Chop celery, onions and add to the pasta. Drain tuna, peas and add. Season the mixture, add Hellmann’s and stir. Continue add in Mayo until it gets to the creaminess that you like. I add just a small amount of mustard to the salad. Taste and add more seasonings until perfect.

Place in refrigerator until ready to serve. During the chilling process the pasta can soak up the mayo. Add more mayo before serving if needed.

You can use any kind of noodle that you want, we think the rings make for the best tuna salad around.

Beer Can Bacon Burgers Recipe: I’m sure you have seen posts all over the web for the latest grilling fad, beer can burgers. My sister gave them a try and said they were delicious!

The recipe can be anything you like. They used hamburger, morels, peppers, onions, bacon and shredded cheese.

Get your charcoal grill ready. Moving hot coals to the outside of grill. You want to cook these burgers on indirect heat. To keep the bacon from pulling off when you turn your burgers you can secure it with a toothpick.

Beer Can Hamburger

You will want your hamburger to be cold when forming. Using 2lb of hamburger (makes 4 burgers) split into 4 balls. Center a beer can with your burger ball and press down forming a bowl. Make sure that you have equal thickness all the way around the hamburger bowl. Using 2 pieces of bacon wrap all the way around the outside of bowl.

Grilling Beer Can Burgers

Take the burger bowl off of the beer can and start stuffing. On the bottom of bowl add shredded cheese, morel mushrooms, green peppers and onions. Top off the burger with more shredded cheese.

Beer Can Bacon Burgers

Place burgers in the center of the grill and cover. Cook for about 1 hour, rotating the burger at the halfway mark. Check at the 45 minute mark if you like them a little less done.

Beef Nachos Recipe Easy: After Phatphood posted a photo of the most delicious looking nachos on his Instagram page last week from Bbq’d Productions in Chicago we had to make our own.

Granted ours are completely different but they were really tasty. You can use ground beef, chicken, pork or no meat at all, whatever your heart desires. Same with your ingredients, go wild!

Nacho Ingredients

Ingredients that we used:

Ground Beef (browned)

Green Onion (chopped thinly)

Sweet Corn

Mexican Shredded Cheese

Roma Tomatoes (diced)


Black Olives


Sour Cream

Fresh Salsa

Salt and Pepper

One thing that I forgot at the store was black beans. I would definitely add them next time and more cheese, you can’t go wrong with more cheese.

Nacho Chips

First brown the hamburger. On a large sheet pan spread out your chips, layer with cheese, hamburger, green onions, jalapenos and more cheese.

Nacho Prep

Place in 350 degree oven for around 15 minutes to melt cheese and crisp up your chips. Once out of the oven top with the rest of your ingredients.

Smothered Nachos

We served ours with fresh salsa and sour cream. Both pans were gone quickly.

Rhubarb Crumble Dessert

Rhubarb Crumble Recipe: It’s rhubarb season! We are crisp or crumble dessert lovers. With this rhubarb crumble recipe the sugar sauce takes it to a whole new level of goodness.

We found this recipe on The Farm Chicks blog and just switched up the measurements a bit. This recipe would also be great using peaches.


4 cups rhubarb (chopped)

1 1/4 cups flour

1 1/2 cups oats

1 1/4 cups light brown sugar (packed)

3/4 cup butter (melted)

1 teaspoon cinnamon

Start by cleaning and chopping your rhubarb, set aside. In a medium size bowl mix the oats, cinnamon, flour, brown sugar and melted butter.

Butter an 8.5″ x 11″ baking dish and pour in half of the crumb mix, pressing into dish.


Sugar Sauce:

1 cup sugar

2 tablespoons cornstarch

1 cup cold water

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Prepare the sugar sauce by whisking sugar, cornstarch and water in a glass bowl. Microwave for 3-5 minutes until the sugar mix is clear and bubbly. Once removed from the microwave add the vanilla.

Add chopped rhubarb to the crumb mix in baking dish, spreading evenly. Pour your sugar sauce over the rhubarb. To finish, top with the remaining crumb mixture.

Bake at 350 degrees for 30-40 minutes. The edges should be bubbly and the topping browned.

We served ours up warm with homemade whipped cream and it was amazing. If you decide to try out this recipe let us know what you thought.

Philly Sliders Recipe


Philly Sliders Recipe: Do you ever find yourself making the same meals for your family over and over again? Switch it up, your family will thank you. These Philly Sliders are simple and oh so delicious!


1 pound deli roast beef

1 package slice provolone cheese

1 medium onion thinly sliced

1 large green pepper thinly sliced

12 pack of King’s Hawaiian Sweet Dinner Rolls

1 clove minced garlic

Onions and Peppers

Start off by sauteing thinly sliced onions, green peppers and garlic in a small amount of olive oil. Cook until desired tenderness. We like a little crunch left in ours. Set aside.

Philly Sandwich

Cut Hawaiian Sweet Dinner Rolls in half and place on baking sheet. I put a small amount of butter on the top side of buns. Start layering your sandwich: roast beef, onions and green peppers, provolone cheese.

Turn on broiler. Place sheet pan in the oven and keep an eye on your sandwiches they can burn quickly. It was just a matter of minutes and our Philly’s were ready to go.

Take out of the oven and place the tops back, cut and serve. We had some horseradish sauce that we served with our Philly Sliders. So good!

Don’t be shocked if your guests eats 3 sliders at one sitting, mine did. The Hawaiian Sweet Rolls come 12 per pack so plan accordingly.

Broccoli Craisin Slaw

Broccoli Craisin Slaw Recipe: This is by far one of the easiest and best salads to make for a party or just to serve with dinner. Unless you plan on making the dressing from scratch this is a pour and stir recipe.

The crispy, sweet, salty, crunchy goodness will leave your family wanting more. Next time I plan on making a double batch.

Broccoli slaw ingredients


12 oz bag of shredded green cabbage

12 oz bag of rainbow broccoli slaw

Sunflower Seeds

Ocean Spray Craisins

Marie’s Original Coleslaw dressing

In a large mixing bowl pour in both bags of slaw. Start with 1/2 the bag of Craisins and 1 cup of sunflower seeds. Pour in 1/2 the bottle of Marie’s dressing and mix. Taste and add more dressing, sunflower seeds and Craisins until it is to your liking. I used the entire bag of Craisins – can’t get enough!

It is best if it is chilled for an hour or so before serving. We paired ours with steak and hash browns. This would also be great on top of pulled pork sandwiches or fish tacos.
