The Nerium Difference

Nerium Age Defying Night Cream Review

Nerium

Nerium Age Defying Night Cream Review: When a buddy of mine told me he has something for me to try “since you have a lot of social network friends,” I immediately knew it had to be some type of health or beauty product since it seems like the biggest fad these days.

What-do-ya-know, that’s exactly what it was! So I meet up with him and he hands me this box of Nerium Age-defying night cream. I told him I would give it a 5-day trial and give him some feedback upon completion.

I lightly lathered this product on nightly before bed with a splash of water, and I must admit, after my week was up I was quite impressed with the results. Smoother, healthier and more firm skin were my results. I thought my skin was already to that level, but I guess it made it a little better and decreased my fine lines that I had developed over the years.

Nerium Review

The only thing that I did not like about Nerium is the smell. Since you rub it in to your face before bed and leave it on overnight you can smell it while you sleep. I thought it would smell a little better since one of the main ingredients is aloe vera, but maybe I am just sensitive to the smell. Even though it is left on over night, it is not a mask, but has a mask-like delivery system.

Furious 7

Furious 7 Review

Furious 7

Furious 7…WOW!! I know it’s not Summer yet, and a lot of blockbusters come out during that time but…this is the movie of the year!!

It was comical, intense and furious…so furious in fact that several patrons started fighting one hour and forty minutes in. Yes, some idiots in the VIP 21+ drinking section where I was, ruined a good five minutes of what may have been a remarkable action scene (which was the entire movie – all action).

This seventh installment in this series was seriously non-stop intense, cheer for the family, pure action…with a great story line that ties in the previous six.  They even subliminally tell you why they dropped “Fast” from the title. Love that they kept the original actors for all of the characters unlike some other sequels. Many cameos as well (Levy Tran…heeeey), no spoilers here.  Not to mention unbelievable stunts, literally.  Who cares though, it was BADASS!!

They did Paul Walker right too in a montage tribute focused on his character.  If you don’t tear up at the end, then you’re not a true fan, or just not as emotional as me. Nothing after the credits so don’t bother sticking around to see if there are surprises. I was at Paragon Odyssey Theater in #burnsville for the 7pm showing on April 2nd for anyone wanting to know where it turned into a 4D film. Go see this movie in IMAX. Was worth it! 5/5 easily.

Mary Poppins Chanhassen Dinner Theatres Review

Mary Poppins Chanhassen Dinner Theatres Review: This weekend I attended Mary Poppins The Broadway Musical at the Chanhassen Dinner Theatres. Let me not waste your time and start off by informing my readers that this musical was excellent in so many ways! Go reserve your tickets immediately. I literally felt like I was taken back and placed on the set of the original film itself.

Ann Michels as Mary Poppins was chilling as she played her role to perfection. From her beautiful ballads to her spot-on posture, I was convinced that this was the true Mary Poppins. Mark King did just as an amazing performance as Bert, although by the end of the show his perspiration had me to believe he was “Singing in the Rain” rather then sweeping chimneys. The kids were adorable, and all in all every actor had top-notch performances that left a desire for more.

????????????????????????????????????????

The sets were minimal, but the song and dance routines were huge and definitely made up for the few set changes there were. My favorite performance was in Act II as the ensemble did a tap dance number to “Step In Time.” Costume and wardrobe were fantastic and true to the film at the turn of the 20th century with some additional flare in some of the performances. Production used stage trap doors and remote electronic trickery to justify the magic that Mary Poppins is well known for, which added the awe factor we all craved as kids watching the motion picture Disney created.

I was a bit disappointed when Mary Poppins took flight, or lack there of, as well as when the kites were to soar high. With the illusions given to us earlier on, I just expected more. During a few of the performances, the cast gave the kinks in our necks a tweak by appearing out of nowhere in the middle of the audience. If you know Chanhassen Dinner Theatres, you know it can be a bit uncomfortable. Especially for a 6’2” hefty guy like myself.

Dinner was a tad above mediocre. If you follow my Instagram (PhatPhood), you may have already seen that I gave each dish a 3 out of 5 rating. I had two glasses of Seven Daughters red wine throughout the five hour-long evening, I ordered a third, yet never received it. You get to hear the same spiel from the waiter for every couple at your confined table as you nod your head and pretend as if you did not already hear the rehearsed paragraph. Regardless, it still ended up being an overall good dinner, and networking with others that share similar passion is always an added benefit.

Dinner Chanhassen Theatre

Chanhassen Theatre Dinner

This musical runs through August 29th, so you have plenty of time. You can always just get tickets for the show only, but I recommend the entire experience if you have never done so. Keep in mind that if you only want to attend the show and skip dinner that the show only tickets are only available ten days prior to performance date. If you are a fan of Mary Poppins or just love great theatre performances/musicals, put this one on your bucket list and thank me later. You can order your tickets here.

Lasagna stuffed spaghetti squash 350

Lasagna Stuffed Spaghetti Squash Recipe

Lasagna stuffed spaghetti squash

Lasagna Stuffed Spaghetti Squash: Losing weight. Eating good. I can’t believe how delicious this recipe is!

Spaghetti Squash

Ingredients:

Spaghetti squash:
1 small spaghetti squash, cut in half and seeded
1 tablespoon oil
salt and pepper to taste

Ingredients

Lasagna meat sauce:
1/2 pound ground turkey
1 tablespoon oil
1/2 onion (diced)
1 cloves garlic (chopped)
1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes
1 (15 ounce) can diced tomatoes
1 tablespoon tomato paste (optional)
1/2 teaspoon Italian seasoning or oregano
1 bay leaf
1/4 teaspoon paprika
1/2 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
salt and pepper to taste
1/2 tablespoon basil (chopped)

Stuffing

Stuffing for spaghetti squash:
1/2 cup low fat cottage cheese or ricotta
1/2 tablespoon basil, chopped
1/2 cup partially skim mozzarella, shredded

Cooking Instructions:

Preheat oven to 400F. Roasting the spaghetti squash: Brush the inside of the spaghetti squash with oil, season with salt and pepper and roast, be sure that the skin side is up. Bake until tender, around 30 minutes.

Cook the turkey for meat sauce, browning takes about 8-10 minutes, set aside. Heat the oil in a large frying pan over medium heat, add the onion and cook until tender, around 5-7 minutes. Add the garlic and red pepper flakes, cook for 1-2 minutes.

Add the turkey, tomatoes, tomato paste, Italian seasoning, bay leaf, paprika, balsamic vinegar, salt and pepper to your frying pan, bringing to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer while the spaghetti squash is finished roasting and then mix in the basil and remove from heat.

Once the spaghetti squash is done roasting fluff up some of the inside to make your noodles. Divide the mixture of the cottage cheese and basil between the two halves followed by the sauce and the cheese.

Broil in the oven until the cheese has melted and turned a light golden brown, about 2-3 minutes. Watch closely.

breakfast 350

Sweet & Spicy Breakfast Stack with Mina Harissa

Sweet & Spicy Breakfast 500

Sweet & Spicy Breakfast Stack with Mina Harissa: So many delicious flavors in this recipe, your family will be begging for more. Turkey, sweet potatoes and peppers make for the perfect combination.

1 large sweet potato
1 lb ground turkey (I used Italian seasoned ground turkey)
1 bell pepper chopped
1/2 medium onion chopped
3 tbsp butter
1tsp garlic powder
eggs
Salt and pepper

Breakfast ingredients

Preheat oven to 375. Cut sweet potato into medallions. Melt 2 tbsp butter in a microwave safe bowl. Pour over potato and add garlic powder, salt and pepper. Toss lose until evenly coated in butter and seasonings. Place the potatoes on a baking sheet and bake for 30 mins, flipping them half way through.

In a medium skillet melt 1 tbsp of butter and add onions. Cook until soft. Add ground turkey and brown until fully cooked. Add in the bell pepper and cook for about 2 minutes. You still want the bell pepper to have a bit of a bite. Fry up a couple sunny side eggs.

To assemble, i did a bottom layer of the sweet potato medallions (roughly 5-6 medallions), topped it with the ground turkey mixture and finished it off with the fried eggs and of course Mina Harissa.

Mina Harissa

Mina has three heat levels of her Harissa, all of them are a perfect addition to any recipe. I dip chips straight into the spicy green chile Harissa. I’ve used the mild Harissa as a spaghetti sauce. The possibilities are endless and the taste is amazing. Move over Sriracha…Mina will literally be on everyone’s tongue within the year. Enjoy!

Banana Muffins 350

Coconut Flour Banana Muffins Recipe

Banana Muffins

Coconut Flour Banana Muffins Recipe: My house smells great! All I have to say is that they turned out pretty tasty…with a generous amount of butter to melt into the dryness.

I didn’t alter this recipe that I found on My Gutsy blog. However, I added different toppings to each muffin, pecans on some, dark chocolate chips on some and cacao chips in some. Just a dash though.

Banana Cupcake Ingredients

Ingredients:

1 cup organic coconut flour

1 1/2 cup very ripe bananas (2-3 bananas)

4 eggs

6 tbsp butter or coconut oil (melted)

5 tbsp raw honey

2-3 squirters full of stevia

1/4 tsp sea salt

1 tbsp cinnamon

1/2 tsp baking soda

1 tbsp vanilla

Preheat your oven to 300 degrees. Place liners in your muffin pan.

In a med bowl smash the bananas and mix in the honey, coconut oil, vanilla, eggs, and stevia until combined.

In a separate bowl mix the coconut flour, baking soda, sea salt, and cinnamon. When using a more dense coconut flour it will turn out much fluffier if you sift it first. Use 1 cup of sifted coconut flour.

Add the dry ingredients to the wet and stir until just combined. Spoon the batter into your muffins liners (90% full.) Bake for 65 minutes at 300 degrees.

This recipe was made for Coconut Flour Banana Bread. If making bread add oil or butter to your bread pan and then line with parchment paper. Cut 2 pieces and fit them in the baking pan.

Bake for 75 minutes at 300 degrees. The top and edges should be a golden brown. Remove form oven and let cool for 15 minutes in pan. Store in a nontoxic container in the fridge.

langoustines and zucchini pasta 350

Langoustines and Zucchini Pasta Recipe

langoustines and zucchini pasta

Langoustines and Zucchini Pasta Recipe: Best low carb home cooked dinner thus far. Zucchini noodles and langoustines in a white wine garlic sauce.

Ingredients:

1 medium zucchini
4 cloves of garlic
1/3 cup dry white wine
1 tbsp butter
6 oz langoustines
1 tsp lemon juice
1 tbsp parsley
Red pepper flake
Salt and pepper

Ingredients

Heat butter in medium pan and add garlic and half of parsley. Cook until garlic is golden. Add in white wine. Let reduce by half. Add in red pepper flakes, salt and pepper to taste. Add langoustines (or substitute shrimp) heat until warm. Turn off heat. We bought our langoustines at Trader Joe’s.

Take the lemon juice, spiraled zucchini and add to the pan and toss. Top with remaining parsley. I put on a few flakes of Parmesan at end. Healthy (just a bit of wine) and so very delicious!

To make our zucchini pasta we used the As Seen on TV Veggetti.  It worked, but it made more of a ribbon as compared to the blue handle tool (shown below), which made a better separated noodle form. Just not as expected and Veggetti is inconsistent from other pictures seen online. Mine clumped, where as others looked like loose, free noodles (see photos below for examples of noodles.)

Meatloaf baking Meatloaf inside

This low carb loaf of meat had a nice spice to it but was missing some flavor. It was good, but could be better. Perhaps adding more onion (or sauteed onion) along with a bit more herbs and seasoning. Play around with it and let us know what you did to improve what we did.
