Yes to Carrots

Yes To Carrots Scalp Relief Regimen Review

Yes to Carrots

I don’t know about you but in the fall/winter I get a dry scalp. After trying various dandruff shampoos over the years, recently I found Yes To Carrots Scalp Relief Shampoo and Conditioner at my local Walgreens and decided to give it a try.

The Yes brand touts that it is best for those who suffer from a dry scalp. The products are pH balanced and combine Tea Tree and lemon to protect your scalp from further irritation. While the salicylic acid reduces unsightly flaking.

Cypress oils are light moisturizing oils that won’t weigh your hair down. And the carrots, yes carrots help heal your already dry scalp as well as stimulate healthy hair.

Yes is 99% natural, petroleum, sls, Paraben free and cruelty free. This is clinically proven to soothe your dry, itchy, flaky scalp within just 7 days.

I am only a few days in and I can tell you that my constant itching is gone and the flakes are pretty much nonexistent. I am sold! I seriously feel so much relief.

My hair didn’t feel weighted down and I was able to style as usual with the same results. We say YES to Yes To Carrots Scalp Relief!

Makeup Eraser Weve Tried It Review

The Original Makeup Eraser Review

Makeup Eraser Weve Tried It Review

The original Makeup Eraser removes your makeup with just water! Removes waterproof mascara in seconds, all natural, no chemicals, machine washable, and more – we put it to the test!

Unless we have a party or a special meeting we generally don’t wear makeup. I can tell you that when I do wear makeup my least favorite part is taking off the makeup with chemicals and smelly products. So, when Gina Williamson contacted Weve Tried It about trying out the Makeup Eraser we were excited and hopeful!

The washcloth is so plush, I wish it was a blanket. One side has a shorter nap that you use with warm water to remove your make up and the other side has a longer nap that you use for exfoliating after you have removed your makeup. Check out our video review below.

Makeup Eraser

Another BIG bonus to this product is that it will last for 1000 washes. That means for 3 years you won’t have to buy any makeup remover – that is some serious savings!

You can purchase the Makeup Eraser Here

This is one of those products that we can’t say enough good things about. My 14 year old child has sensitive skin and we have a hard time finding face cleaner that isn’t going to cause irritation. She is loving the Makeup Eraser. We are buying these as Christmas gifts – the gift that keeps on giving.

Velata Raclette Tabletop Grill Review

photo 3 (2)

Grilling inside is a must during the long winter months in Wisconsin if you are anything like us and don’t enjoy shoveling the snow off your deck. Receiving the Velata Raclette Tabletop Grill from Velata consultant Rheda Wilson-Duff we were thrilled at the thought of a grilling alternative!

The Velata Raclette Tabletop Grill comes with a cast aluminum grill top, a granite stone top grill, 8 raclette dishes, 8 spatulas and a convenient carrying bag. The granite stone top can also be placed in the freezer and used to make cold stone ice cream, can’t wait to try that.

photo 2 (2)

The Raclette Grill package is priced at $140.00 which is quite a bargain for everything you get. Along with the grill, Rheda also sent us 4 of their spices, chocolate sauce & cheese sauce to try out.

For our first test we treated our families to a delicious steak and veggie dinner using the granite stone top that is included in the set. The second test came when we made breakfast using the aluminum grill top for french toast, sausage and hash browns. Both cook tops worked great and our meals were fabulous!

The set up was super easy and we were ready to cook in just a couple of minutes. The granite top heated up pretty quick and our steak bites and veggies were cooked to perfection. I was worried we were going to get smoked out of the house, but there was none.

For dessert we had strawberries and pretzels dipped in the delicious Belgium chocolate. Wow was that good. We recommend you keep an eye on the chocolate, we burnt our first batch.

The only thing that was not included that I would have liked to see is a recipe or meal idea book. Having some suggestions and cooking guidelines is always helpful. We found recipes here and on YouTube.

The Raclette Table Top Grill is going to make our winter’s a little more bearable knowing we can still have delicious grilled food from the warmth of our kitchen’s. This really seems like a great gift idea for those hard to shop for family members.

Velata’s description: “Create memorable meals or parties with the Velata Raclette Tabletop Grill. Borrowing a centuries-old Swiss tradition, the Velata Raclette is an easy-to-use appliance that allows you to cook delicious meals at the table.

The Velata Raclette Tabletop Grill includes 2 grill tops to give you the perfect surface to cook meats, fish, vegetables, or any grillable food. The 100% natural granite stone top triples as a pizza stone, a cold stone, and an elegant serving tray. And the non-stick cast aluminum grill top features a ridged grill on one side and a smooth griddle surface on the other.

While your meat or veggies cook on the grill, your cheese melts perfectly in the dish for a culinary match made in heaven! Share this fun, interactive experience with your loved ones and enjoy more engaging meals together. Bon appétit!”

Thanks again Rheda! We highly recommend the Racletta to everyone, this is for sure something we will use often.

Crocheted Headband

How to Crochet Headbands with Button Video

Crocheted Headband

Recently I learned how to crochet using YouTube videos and have found that it is the only thing that shuts my brain off. My daughter asked me to crochet her a headband with a button.

After watching many videos and trying out different patterns, I used some things from several patterns and made up my own video tutorial. Please keep in mind that while I was learning I stopped and started the videos over and over.

Also, if you think you have done something wrong it is better to take the stitch out right away then having to go back after you have gotten farther into the pattern.

You will need yarn (I use Lion Brand 4 or 5 weight), I 5.5mm hook, darning needle, button and a scissors.

Remember I am new to this and I may not use the proper name for some of the stitches I use. I am a firm believer in watching someone do it and following along.

Americas Best Contacts and Eyeglasses

America’s Best Contacts & Eyeglasses Review

Americas Best Contacts and Eyeglasses

I have been wearing the same pair of glasses for so long that I can’t remember the last time I went in for a exam. After seeing America’s Best Contacts & Eyeglasses‘ ad for 2 pair of complete glasses for $69.00 plus tax, I had to find out if this was too good to be true.

An eye exam fee of $45.00 was paid upon arrived.  After the exam I picked out two sets of frames and paid an additional $24 plus tax as part of the ordering process.  The turn around time is 6-10 days.

We posted the above photo on our Facebook page and asked our readers to help me pick out frames. I ended up picking #3 and #5 – I am thrilled with them both.

My plan is to go back soon and get a few more–for that price you can’t go wrong. You can spend more money if you choose to get glass lenses or coating, but I went with the bare-bones plastic lenses. They seem perfect.

I went to the Woodbury, MN location of ‘America’s Best’ and couldn’t be more please with the service. The employees were very friendly and my order arrived in the promised time frame.

Diane, the Woodbury office manager, has offered a 10% discount, at her location only, to our readers until December 21st, 2014.  All you have to do is mention ‘Weve Tried It.’

Here are some of the other great deals that they are currently offering:

Whipped Sweet Potatoes

Whipped Candied Sweet Potatoes Recipe

Whipped Sweet Potatoes

Sweet potatoes are one of my favorite things about Thanksgiving. I am always in charge of bringing them to our family gathering. This year I decided to make up a new recipe and they taste like a dessert.

Ingredients:

6 large sweet potatoes
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon nutmeg
1/4 cup light brown sugar
Salt and pepper
3 tablespoons butter (soft)
1/4 cup milk

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Cook  sweet potatoes until done (soft to the touch.) It took a little over an hour for mine to cook.

In a large mixing bowl put the pealed sweet potatoes (I break mine up a bit with a fork), add the rest of the ingredients and whip on high speed until all lumps are gone and they are smooth.

Finish off with a few chucks of butter on top and crushed candied walnuts (that recipe here) and they are ready to serve.

Holiday Appetizers: Candied Walnuts Recipe

candied walnuts recipe WTI

There is always one dish at every party that gets talked about, this is it! Not only are candied nuts very addicting but they go very fast at any celebration.

We found this recipe on Brown Eyed Baker blog. They used pecans but we substituted walnuts, we will be trying almonds too. We suggest doubling or tripling this recipe – ours were gone before we went to our get-together.

Ingredients:

1 cup sugar
2 tsp ground cinnamon
1 tsp salt
2 egg whites
2 tbls water
½ tsp vanilla extract
1 lb walnut halves
Preheat oven to 250 degrees. Use a non-stick baking sheet with sides. You can also line your baking sheet with parchment paper.

In a gallon size Ziploc bag, add sugar, cinnamon and salt, then set aside.

Candied nuts mixture

In medium bowl, whisk together the 2 egg whites, water and vanilla extract together. Once completely mixed add walnuts to the bowl and stir them into the egg white mixture be sure they are all moistened.

Egg wash

Use a slotted spoon to remove the walnuts from the egg whites and put them into the cinnamon-sugar mixture bag. Seal bag, and shake it coating all of the walnuts.

With a clean slotted spoon, remove your walnuts from bag and place onto the baking sheet in a single layer.

candied nuts

Bake for 1 hour, stirring them every 15 minutes. Remove from the oven and cool to room temperature. Once cooled put the walnuts in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 weeks.

Roasted Chickpeas Recipe

Roasted Chickpeas Recipe: This may be the first time that I have ever tried garbanzo beans. I read that these little roasted chickpeas were addicting and I think that may be an understatement. WOW!

I purchased 2 cans of garbanzo beans from Trader Joe’s and should have bought a case! This recipe is super easy, the only pain is shelling each and every bean. With that being said… they are worth it. Next time I will get my daughter and husband to help speed up the process.

Ingredients:

Garbanzo beans (as many cans as you want)
Olive oil
Sea Salt

Cheesy Hash Brown and Ham Soup Recipe

Cheesy Hash brown and ham soup recipe

Cheesy Hash Brown and Ham Soup Recipe: I was told this is the best soup that I have ever made. Shirley has been day dreaming about the cheesy hash brown soup that she use to eat back in the days when she was a waitress at Perkins.

Trying to find a recipe that sounded similar to the one she explained was hard. Everything I found called for cans of soup (cream of celery and cream of chicken). When I make homemade soup I don’t like to add cans of soup in my recipes (other than chicken stock.)

I made up my own recipe and she said it is exactly what she remembered.

Ingredients:

2 cups fully cooked ham cubed
1 medium onion diced
5 stalks of celery diced
5 cups frozen hash browns
48oz chicken stock
1lb Velveeta cheese cubed
1 1/2 cups milk
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup flour
