Rolo Pretzel Sandwich Recipe: This time of year social media seems to be filled with delicious looking recipes for the holiday’s. These rolo pretzel sandwiches popped up on my Facebook feed and I knew that I had to make them.

Perfect family activity, the kiddos can unwrap the Rolos and line up the pretzels. It’s super easy! Start by lining a baking sheet with tinfoil or parchment paper, fill with pretzels. Then place Rolos on top of pretzels and place in a 250 degree pre-heated oven for 3 minutes. Keep an eye on them and take them out when they start to melt. Immediately top with another pretzel. Let cool. I popped mine in the refrigerator for 10 minutes to firm up.

Rolo Pretzels

Melted Rolos

Chocolate Pretzels

To make them festive we decided to dip half of the pretzel in melted white chocolate and add some red and green sprinkles. Melt the white chocolate in the microwave for 2 minutes.

White Chocolate Sprinkles

Quick and easy! This would make a great gift for a teacher or friend! You could put them in a holiday tin or wrap up in a clear bag with a Christmas bow.

Ingredients:

Rolos

Pretzels

White Baking Chocolate

Sprinkles

Tin Foil or Parchment Paper

Another variation: One pretzel on the bottom, topped with a Rolo and once melted smash it down with a pecan. Yum! I am going to try those next.

Fudge Kit

Nestle Carnation Famous Fudge Kit Review

Nestle Carnation Famous Fudge Kit

Nestle Carnation Famous Fudge Kit Review – One of my favorite holiday treats is homemade fudge. I found this fudge making kit at Walmart and decided to give it a try.

I don’t know about you but I have tried to make homemade fudge in the past and it wasn’t easy. This kit seems like the ways to go.

Carnation Fudge Making Kit

Everything is included in the kit except for 2 tablespoons of butter. The kit includes: Carnation Evaporated Milk, Toll House Chocolate Chips, Sugar Mix and Marshmallows.

Super simple! Line an 8″ square baking pan with foil and lightly spray with non-stick cooking oil. In a heavy-duty sauce pan combine sugar mix, Carnation Evaporated Milk and butter. Over medium heat, stirring occasionally. Once boiling, stir constantly for 4 minutes. Remove from heat.

Add Nestle Toll House Morsels and marshmallows all at once. Stir vigorously until morsels and marshmallows are melted.

Fudge

Immediately pour the mixture into pan; smooth top. Refrigerate for 2 hours or until firm. Lift from pan; remove foil. Cut into 24 pieces.

Homemade Fudge

Cutting tip: Before cutting, remove from refrigerator and let stand at room tempature for 30 minutes. Dip sharp knife into hot water and wipe dry. Wipe knife after each cut.

So good! This fudge melted in my mouth and the flavor was out of this world. We will definitely be buying this product again.

Cheesy Chicken Vegetable Chowder Recipe

Cheesy Chicken Vegetable Chowder Recipe: Soup season is here and there is nothing better than throwing together whatever you have on hand into a kettle and making homemade soup. In my family our creations are generally named while we are eating.

Now, depending on your time frame, you can use store bought chicken broth. Also, if you don’t have enough time to roast your chicken you can pick up a rotisserie chicken at your local deli. Using a whole chicken will result in much more tender meat.

Ingredients:

3 cups chopped carrots (1 16oz bag of baby carrots chopped)

2 cups chopped celery (6 stalks)

1 cup chopped onions (medium white onion)

5 large baker potatoes chopped

48oz chicken broth

2.5 lb oven roasted whole chicken

1 cup cubed Velveeta Cheese (optional)

1/4 cup butter

1/4 cup flour

1 cup heavy whipping cream

Salt and pepper to taste

2 pinches of thyme

roasted chicken

Directions:

If you are roasting a chicken be sure to get that going right away. Prep your vegetables. I go for a large chop because it makes the soup so much more hearty.

In large soup kettle melt 1 tablespoon of butter and add in all of your chopped vegetables, sweat for around 5 minutes on medium heat, add salt, pepper and thyme.

Now you add the chicken broth to just above the vegetable mixture, boil until all vegetables are tender. It’s time to thicken the soup. In a small fry pan melt 1/4 cup of butter and whisk in 1/4 cup of flour. Once it starts to bubble you can add your heavy whipping cream. Whisk thoroughly and then pour into your soup kettle slowly stirring until desired thickness.

Now would be a good time to add the Velveeta Cheese, as a result it gives the soup a rich flavor. You can add the chicken now. We wait until the end since the chicken is already cooked. There is nothing worse than overcooked chicken.

Before Bathtub Rust-Oleum Review

Rust-Oleum Tub & Tile Refinishing Kit Review

Before and After Tile Rust-Oleum bathroom remodel

Rust-Oleum Tub & Tile Refreshing Kit Review: There is something to be said about the gratification that comes along with DIY projects. A year ago my family moved into my grandparents home built in the early 60’s. We are slowly but surely working on remodeling each room. So far the bathroom remodel has been the most rewarding.

Before Bathtub

I will be working on a full remodel story but for now I want to show you my biggest money saving find. Rust-Oleum Tub & Tile Refreshing Kit was so much more than I expected it to be. You know how much an new tub and shower inclosure can cost! We are all about giving the less expensive route a try first before we spend a bunch a money. You can get this product at Home Depot for $25.97.

Rust-Oleum Tub & Tile Refinishing Kit

Rust-Oleum Tub & Tile acts and looks like porcelain and ceramic. You can apply it to ceramic, porcelain or fiberglass. It’s so easy! You MUST wear a mask unless you want to act goofy for a couple hours. My friend Jenni and I had some great laughs while doing this project.

The tile looks brand new. I can’t tell you how much I loved doing this product. This is not a paid ad, we paid for it and would recommend it to all. It’s fast-drying, indoor durable and corrosion-resistant.

After Rust-Oleum

Included at the bottom of this is Rust-Oleum’s Youtube video on how to use this product. I should note we did everything they instructed us to do on the back of the box. There is some cleaning prep before you start, make sure you do that to get the best results. It is important to do 2 coats in order to get a beautiful new finish.

If you decided to give this product a try we would love you to post a before and after picture on our Facebook page.

Homemade Blackhead Remover Recipe

DIY Blackhead Remover

Homemade Blackhead Remover Recipe – Nobody wants to admit that they have blackheads, but (Missy does)… My guess is that at some point in time you have tried  blackhead removal strips that you can buy at the store. This 2 ingredient recipe works great.

Blackhead remover

1 Tablespoon Milk

1 Tablespoon Knox Gelatine

Simple! Just mix the two ingredients and stir. The mixture will be firm. Once completely mixed put in the microwave for 10 seconds on medium heat and stir. Be sure not to cook any longer or it will burn your skin. Test it with your finger to make sure that it isn’t too hot before putting on your nose.

BHR paste

blackhead remover paste

Use a paint brush to spread evenly over your nose, covering all blackheads. Let sit for 1o minutes. You will feel it stiffen and pull on your skin. Hopefully you enjoy the smell of warm milk! After 10 minutes pull off. You may even notice some hair along with the blackheads.

White Chicken Chili Recipe

White Chicken Chili Recipe

White Chicken Chili Recipe 2

White Chicken Chili Recipe: We are BIG fans of all soups and stews. Hard to believe that this is the first time I have made white chicken chili. My house smells amazing!

Generally I search out many recipes and take a little from each one. Most recipes called for 1-pound boneless, skinless chicken breast, cubed, I prefer to use rotisserie chickens for my soups, they just seem tenderer and have better flavor.

White chicken chili ingredients

Ingredients:

1 tablespoon olive oil

1 rotisserie chicken shredded

1 tablespoon ground cumin

½ teaspoon dried oregano

½ teaspoon salt

½ teaspoon pepper

2 teaspoons minced garlic

4 cups chicken broth

3 15 oz. cans white beans rinsed and drained

1 small can diced green chilies

1 11 oz. can whole kernel corn

Monterey Jack cheese for garnish

Fresh cilantro, chopped

Heat olive oil in medium sized soup pot. Add shredded chicken, minced garlic, cumin, oregano, salt and pepper. Cook for 5-7 minutes. Stirring to get all the spices mixed into your chicken.

Chicken

Add 4 cups of chicken broth, 3 cans of beans, 1 can of sweet corn and 1 small can of green chilies. Bring soup to a boil and then simmer for 30-45 minutes.

White Chicken Chili spoon

Sprinkle with cilantro and Monterey Jack cheese.  I have seen many recipes that added slices of avocado to finish off. Enjoy!

Missy Hair 2

Tangled Salon and Spa Missy Gets a Makeover

Missy Hair

Tangled Salon and Spa Missy Gets a Makeover – Generally people don’t cut the majority of their hair off right before winter but I was ready for an extreme change. A big shout out to my hairstylist of many years Nan Grekoff co-owner of Tangled Salon and Spa in Hudson, WI for allowing We’ve Tried It to come in and video the experience.

Not only did I get the full treatment from Nan, stylist Justine Burton did my makeup to make sure I looked my best for the big reveal. I may have to watch the video several times to see exactly how Justine did my eyes with the POP of blue.

I must admit I am a bit of a baby when it comes to putting bleach on my head… I like to say that I have a very sensitive scalp. So if I am acting up in the video just keep in mind my “sensitive scalp”.

If you are in or near the St. Croix Valley be sure to stop in to Tangled Salon & Spa, 209 Second Street, Hudson, WI 54016 – 715-386.8123. You can also check them out on Facebook.

Thanks again to Nan and Justine for giving me this fabulous new look! I love it!

Chicken Tortilla Soup Weve Tried It

Chicken Tortilla Soup Recipe

Chicken Tortilla Soup

Chicken Tortilla Soup Recipe: I’m not sure what your reaction was when you saw the above photo of this delcious looking soup, but I want some right now! My friend Brandy Morcomb posted this picture on her Facebook page of her homemade Chicken Tortilla Soup and she was kind enough to share her recipe with us.

Not only is Brandy sharing her recipe for the soup but she is also giving us her very own spice mix and fills us in on how she makes her cilantro rolls!

Ingredients:

1-2 jalapeño diced
1 red pepper diced
1 yellow onion diced
1 box chicken stock (about 4-6 cups )
1 bag of fire roasted corn
2 cans of fire roasted tomatoes
1 can of black beans
1 rotisserie chicken-cleaned off the bone and cubed

You can use whatever spices you like or you can try Brandy’s special spice mixture. Once you have throughly mixed the spices together ONLY USE 2 tablespoons for your soup. You will have extra for other dishes.

Brandy’s Spice Mix (Only use 2 tbsp.)

3 Tbsp. chilli powder
1 1/2 Tbsp. sea salt
2 Tbsp. cumin
2 Tbsp. smoked paprika
2 Tbsp. Mrs Dash southwest Chipotle
1 Tbsp. crushed chilli flakes (optional)
2 Tbsp. cayenne pepper

In a soup pot sauté the jalapenos, red pepper and yellow onion. Once the veggies are tender add the rest of your ingredients and 2 tablespoon of spice mixture. Bring the soup to a light boil and then simmer for 1 hour. While the soup is simmering Brandy always adds the juice of 1-2 limes. Seems simple right?

When you are ready to serve you can top with chips, sour cream, shredded cheese, avocado, and/or cilantro. Whatever you like.

The cilantro rolls are crescent rolls with fresh cilantro and a half a stick of Organic string cheese rolled in them. Then topped with a dash of cilantro.
